Emily's
Bio
If
you know music on the Internet, you know Emily Richards.
Emily, a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles, is
recognized as the most downloaded pop/rock independent
artist on the Internet and “Queen of MP3.”
Fueled by her passionate and tragic life
experiences, her songs are emotional and intelligent.
She continues to experience incredible success.
At MP3.com, Emily garnered twelve number one hits
and received over 1.9 million unique downloads.
She has sold over 25,000 CDs on her own Indie
label. Emily’s
album, “Can’t Take It With You,” was the top selling
pop/rock album at MP3.com since its release in early July
2002.
Emily's latest album "Valhalla" was
released in September 2003 and has received the most
critical acclaim of her work so far.
Noted
for her superior live performances, Emily was selected
from 70,000 artists to headline the 50-city Club.MP3.com
Summer 2000 Tour. The
tour was a tremendous success, selling out venues such as
The House of Blues in Los Angeles, New Orleans, Las Vegas
and Orlando. Tragically,
it was near the end of this tour that Emily's baby sister,
Annie, was killed by a drunk driver.
Since
this tragedy, Emily has dedicated her music career to her
sister's memory by founding the AWAKE
Community, a nonprofit organization educating about
ways to value and preserve life. Emily is also the
director of the Teen Outreach Program for RADD
(Recording
Artists, Actors & Athletes Againt Drunk Driving),
founded by Paul McCartney. Emily wrote and
recorded the album, Folded
Wings, as a
tribute to her sister.
Emily
began studying piano at the age of five and started
songwriting at eleven. She is also an accomplished
vocalist and dancer.
While
studying music and dance at the University of Utah, she
suffered a serious back injury as a result of a car
accident. Due
to the severity of her injuries, she was forced to change
her major from music and went on to graduate in Accounting
and became a CPA and manager for PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
After extensive rehabilitation, Emily anxiously
returned to her true passion, music.
Emily
opened for Martina McBride in Salt Lake City, recorded her
first album in Nashville and continues to perform and
record in Los Angeles. Emily's incredible song “To
Love You” remains the #1 Love Song on MP3.com and has
been downloaded over 700,000 times. The smash MP3 #1
hit “Do You Remember,” written by Emily, was featured
in the HBO movie “Red Letters” after being named the
most downloaded pop song of 2000. She has 7 CDs
available for purchase: Valhalla,
Can't Take
It With You, There
Is Love, Christmas
Angel, Folded
Wings, You
Give, Emily
(Instrumental).
With
her music career dedicated to honoring her sister’s
memory, Emily donates all proceeds from her album Folded
Wings to RADD.
Additionally, she performs several shows each year wherein
net proceeds are donated to charity in Annie’s name.
Emily does extensive public speaking in middle schools,
colleges and corporations about making wise life choices,
including education regarding drinking and driving.
